Sometimes our clients choose to install an element or two themselves and we help with the more technical elements. Other times, they take on the entire design themselves. Whether it involves sheet mulching an entire lawn, planting, or moving materials, we support clients taking ownership of some of these tasks. We sometimes coach our clients or if necessary, they will choose to hire out help for certain elements, typically carpentry or lighting. This project was a great example of the clients’ taking a budget friendly approach, but still building a beautiful garden in the end.

We intentionally designed fence panels with spaces between them, utilizing the existing shrubs and trees to create focal points and enclose the space. This way what used to feel like a fortress, is now an open and inviting entry for their guests. We work with a lot of challlenging concrete shapes and uneven surfaces. Where they previously had a small concrete stoop, we chose to extend it with pavers to blend the awkward shape, in turn allowing them a larger space to welcome their guests.
